Face Fear And Push For Success!
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
I’m sure that you’ve heard of people who suffer from a fear of failure, but do you know there are people who deal with a fear of success? It’s true, it’s not as rare as you may think (you yourself may deal with it), and it’s debilitating.
First, so many of us have grown up being told that what we dream about doing or being is stupid or that it’s silly or that “you can’t do that!” As a result, as we grow into adults, some of us adopt a fear of failure and dread it daily, as if it were a rabid dog, always ready to pounce. We end up feeling worthless and unable to do anything on our own.
We sometimes take it a step further to a whole other extreme in which success is just as terrifying as failure. The chance of something we put our hand to actually bearing fruit leaves us with a fear of the unknown and wondering if it’s really worth it to step out on the water. Best to just stay put and not attempt anything. After all, if we don’t try, we don’t fail. Right?
We will often sabotage our own success in various ways because it’s just too darned scary to move out of the “I can’t do anything” mentality. We’re stepping into unknown territory and it feels too different to be a good thing.
That is nothing more than barely surviving, not even close to living a life of adventure, daring, and courage. It’s one vicious circle with no end in sight. Damned if we do and damned if we don’t.
Now, I’m not about to tell you that you will never fear. Fear is natural, but living in it is a choice. Make the decision to walk through fear with courage. After all, courage is not the lack of fear, but making the choice to move forward in spite of it.
Can you relate to anything I’m talking about? If you can, it’s time to erase those old tapes of the past and begin to tell yourself that you WILL try new things, you WILL venture out into uncharted territory, you WILL leave fear behind, and, come hell or high water, you WILL persevere until you reach your goals.
You can do this! Moving forward will not kill you. I promise. Choosing to stand up to negative thinking and the bullies of your past will be the best things you have ever done for yourself. Step out on that tightrope. You may stumble sometimes, but that’s normal and definitely nothing terminal.
You just may get a sweet taste of living and find that it suits you.
