Use This Simple Habit Change To Supercharge Your Social Media

Are you a creature of habit? Most of us are! Good or bad, ruts are comfortable and low-effort – so easy to do so much, no thought necessary.

Sometimes, though, the small effort it takes to do something different is far outweighed by the big benefit that a fresh approach brings.

It’s Time to Escape Your Social Media Rut!

Use This Simple Habit Change To Supercharge Your Social Media

Let’s start with some facts…

More people “do social” on mobile than desktop. Take Facebook, for example…

In late 2015, only 10% of people (160/1545 million) used a desktop browser exclusively (the black line)…

Desktop still matters (53% used desktop for at least some of the time – see the blue line), but mobile sessions dominate.

And not just on Facebook. Some major social media are exclusively mobile…

The data above is from 2013. Mobile use has only gone up since then!

So What’s the Habit Change?

Start doing at least half of your social media marketing on a tablet or phone. Or if you do it all on a mobile device, start doing some on your desktop/laptop.

Why? Because what you deliver on one does not all look the same on the other. Nor is functionality identical, either. One example…

Twitter shows all of a square or portrait image on desktop, but will “crop” it down to landscape in mobile… unless you click on the image to see it all (more than 95% won’t).  The problem?

Your image may look completely ridiculous!

Compare the desktop version of this Twitter image…

You’ll encounter a bunch of little wrinkles such as this. Only by doing your social media marketing on different devices will you pick up on them all and adjust your strategy/eliminate mistakes accordingly.

Bottom Line Takeaway?

By alternating mobile and desktop devices to create your social content, you’ll learn to provide a perfect experience to all your users, whichever device they’re on.

So what are you waiting for? Get out of that rut! You’ll be glad that you did!

Excellent article. I mainly use my laptop when producing content to pin, post or tweet. Must be something to do with my age ;-( Can’t seem to get into the habit of creating on my mobile device. Need to ask my G’kids how to really use the thing before I can ‘really use the thing’ Lol!
