Why Golf Lessons Only Help the Most Talented

As you may know, I love to teach....

I've coached championship Little League teams and taught
interns how to save lives in the Emergency Room.  I've
worked with a Canadian golf pro (he became "most improved
player" on the tour) and lectured trauma surgeons.

And, of course, the SiteSell line of "Make Your _____ Sell!"
books have taught tens of thousands of entrepreneurs and
small businesses about how  to succeed on the Net.

I remember one day, working with the golf pro.  I was
showing him a change I wanted him to make in his golf swing.
You know what he did?

He just DID it.  Perfectly.  Over and over again.

Yet, when I try to do that same thing, something goes wrong
between my brain and my muscles.  No, not all the time... or
I'd give up the game!

But enough of the time to know that I can never play at a
highly competitive level.  I have the knowledge, but I lack
the tools.

I laughingly told Jimmy...

"Jim, golf lessons are, for most folks, a fraud."

Now Jimmy, of course, earns a fair part of his income from
giving lessons.  So he retorted...

"Why the ____ do you say that, Ken?"  (Supply missing word, 
depending on your level of tolerance to expletives!  ;-) )

Do you know the answer, dear reader?

It's because most folks just don't have the tools to do what
is necessary to shoot below 80 at golf.

And I'm not talking about golf clubs when I say "tools." 
Heck, Lee Trevino used to take money from tourists using a
taped-up Coke bottle as his "club" (in his pre-fame days).

No, most folks simply do NOT have what it takes to execute
the shots.  The basic set of tools required (brain-to-muscle
neurological wiring) are missing.

Now let's consider the medical interns and residents.  How
important is their book learning?

Important, obviously.  It's the theoretical base upon which
they build.  Pretty hard to make a diagnosis if you don't 
know the theory.

But believe me... you'd never want to be treated by a doctor
who has never talked to a patient, never put an IV into an
arm or an ET tube into a wind pipe. Never cried with a family.

My job was to convert knowledge into clinical judgment, to 
give them the skills required to put in IVs or central lines, 
or ET tubes, etc.  To realize that people are PEOPLE, not 
things studied in books.

At the end of the day, great clinicians have all the TOOLS 
required to save lives.  Not just knowledge.

So, you ask...

What do golfers and young doctors have to do with YOU and
e-commerce?

Everything.

Like most golfers and physicians-in-training, I'm sure you
have the motivation.  And I'm sure you KNOW enough... and
that IS important.  Some people even know TOO much... and
never get around to DOING.

No matter what, though, you have to have MOTIVATION. As a
matter of fact, if you have MOTIVATION, that should be ALL
you need to succeed on the Net.

But, up until now, that has NOT been the case.  MOTIVATION
was not enough.  It has been just too time-consuming to do
it all, to succeed by yourself.

Up until now, only the smartest people have been able to put
it all together and develop profitable ebusinesses.

Up until now, most folks have simply spun their wheels. They
work hard, but on low-yield strategies.  They get
overwhelmed by too much incoming data to LEARN...

Too many new strategies.

Too many new tools.

Too many side roads leading to nowhere.

To make a long story short, up until now, MOTIVATION has 
NOT been enough.  Like I said...

"Up until now."

But... not any more.
