Avoid The Coming Trash Backlash
Google's AdSense program hands "Content Providers" an
extremely lucrative means for generating income on their Web
sites. Never before has there been such a simple,
no-nonsense formula for rewarding those who create valuable
content and focus solely on the needs of their visitors.
SBIers rave about their AdSense income.
And Yahoo! is in beta with a similar, service, with MSN soon
to follow. So the future is rosy.
Unfortunately, some less than ethical marketers try to take
advantage of this "golden goose," and ignore the needs of
their visitors. They don't play by the rules.
They devise tools (called "scrapers") to create reams of
"content" with which they can then monetize with AdSense
ads. I put content in quotations, intentionally.
This "content" is basically bits and chunks of articles
sucked and "scraped" from various online sources and loosely
tossed together into something that looks like a dog's
breakfast.
Because SEs penalize sites that duplicate material or
violate copyrights, scraping programs attempt to fool the
SEs. They shuffle the order of the stolen content to make
it appear original.
In other words, these tools create "garbage" content sites.
Other folks just bang out tons of manually written, low-
value info, copying or slightly modifying open-source stuff.
But it doesn't matter. Trash is trash.
Humans recognize it.
And Google is learning to take it out to the curb.
The tide is turning.
Surfers get frustrated and turned off when searches direct
them to sites that offer no value and do not address their
needs or provide the solutions they are looking for.
Google, or any other SE, cannot afford their surfers to be
unhappy.
Google tracks human satisfaction nowadays. The days of
on-page relevance are long put to bed. That's just the
ante. The key now? Google tracks hundreds of off-page
criteria that give them a good estimate of what humans
think. These canNOT be Search Engine Optimized (SEO'd).

sites, those built purely to generate Google ad money. And
that's fair... if you threaten the integrity of Google, do
not expect them to stand idly by.
