New Results.sitesell.com Launches!
Results.sitesell.com is becoming a mini-directory of some of
the most well-done, informative sites in the world...

But it sure is getting harder and harder to update. Why?
Because SBIers keep doing better and better. More and more
of them are entering the Top 1% of all sites in the world.
We used to limit this site to 300, then 400, and now it
requires sheer ruthlessness to keep that level intact.
Each time we do this, the new sites stagger me. There is no
limit to the niches you can conquer.
Even though we eliminate sites that don't have the "real"
traffic to justify their Alexa scores, and even though we
chop sites that are in categories that are overcrowded, and
even though we regretfully drop sites that have been in
results.sitesell.com "long enough" (and bring in new ones),
we couldn't get it down to anywhere near 400 sites.
Here's the bottom line...
The more congested the Web gets, the STRONGER SBIers become.
Regular business people are leaving sites built by
professional Webmasters and SEOers in their dust.

You Are Not Wikipedia!
Find Your Voice And VPP
The SBI! Forums include an area where SBIers can request a
free site review by fellow SBIers. It's a great way to get
a candid second opinion, to find out what's working (or
not!) and/or to proudly show off your efforts.
I find the Site Review forum fascinating. It's fun to see a
constant array of theme-based content sites in different
stages of development. The wide variety of niches is
mind-boggling. And I am continuously amazed by the generous
and caring feedback provided by other SBIers. The SBI!
Forums really do live up to their title, "THE Place For
Friendly, Success-Focused Discussion."
Not so long ago, I reviewed three sites. Brandon's theme is
about pomegranates. Dee covers business analysis. And
Warren focuses on the Great Barrier Reef.
Each one had an interesting niche, offered a sharp Look &
Feel, and presented solid content. The skin and bones were
already in place.
BUT (and it's a huge "but")...
Each one was missing two essential ingredients...
o Unique Voice
-AND-
o "VPP," Valuable PREselling Proposition
(i.e., what sets you apart from your competitors).

How can these three site owners rectify this situation?
They need to work on getting "gusto" into their voice. The
really great sites sparkle with personality, and not just in
the writing. For example, as a visitor to his site, I want
to see photos of Brandon sipping that Pomegranate Martini,
or being way up on a ladder, leaning on a pomegranate tree.
Photos add warmth, reality, and yes, they even add the
"voice of been-there, done-that."
Warren lives near the Great Barrier Reef. So he must have a
ton of treasures... photos! I'd love to see way more photos
about such a photogenic theme.
A business analysis theme, on the other hand, does not
require very many photos. But you must establish your VPP
cleanly, sharply and quickly. And then, you must
credentialize yourself... your authority.
I found myself getting interested in Dee's site. And pretty
soon, I was wondering how I might apply what she says to
SiteSell. And right then... I found myself thinking, "Who
is this person and why should I pay attention?" VPP.
Keep in mind that Voice and VPP are not necessarily spoken
"ON the lines" -- they can be done "BETWEEN the lines." For
example, let's use my daughter's site, anguilla-beaches.com.
It holds your attention with a strong start. From there,
you quickly gather that this is a family who has done it all
on Anguilla.
I've seen Anguilla forums refer friends to
anguilla-beaches.com precisely because of the personal
experience, all of the little tips that can only come if
you've "been there, done that," and for the photos.
See for yourself the impact. On this page, note the owner's
voice, the emotions you feel, and the extra credibility that
photos add...

Visitors want adventures, stories, characters, spirit, and
credibility. If the subject matter is more serious, like
business, they want authority, of course. But they want YOU
most of all and no matter what. So...
Flesh your content out with passionate, personal material.
Done well, you make your visitor sit up and pay attention,
and s/he doesn't even know why.

Check the Voice and Valuable PREselling Proposition on your
site to make sure the two stand out. Start your own review
process...
1) Read ( or refresh your memory) the tips in "Make Your
Content PREsell!," an excellent writing resource...

2) Then read your site through a visitor's eyes. Remember...
Google "calculates" high-quality content by tracking visitor
behavior and approval (ex., in-pointing links to your site,
time away from engines after a click to your site, etc.).
If Voice and VPP are missing right now, don't panic. It's
easy to correct...
o Resolve now to write all future pages according to
Make Your Content PREsell.
o As you edit each page, re-work it to add some of YOU into
it. Add photos where relevant.
Always remember that your site is not a research paper. If
folks want Wikipedia, they'll go there. You limit your
potential if you sound like the impersonal content delivered
by encyclopedia sites.
You have one hugely important element that no dry resource
file can duplicate. YOU!
So... use YOU! :-)
