Image Search Reporting Launches!


Image search is becoming an increasingly important part of
the traffic "picture" for certain sites.  If you have a lot
of images on your site, about 12% of your Google traffic
comes from image search.  That's more than Ask.com provides,
and about as much as MSN search provides.

SBIers now have stats on which images are being found, how
often, and with which keyword searches.  This information
lets them build more pages, and add more images, that people
are looking for.

Blogging For Traffic? Debunk The Hype
With This Alexa Blog Trick


Dotcommers are loud and noisy as they trumpet their "latest
and greatest" discoveries over the Net.  Some are talented
marketers who manage to make GRQ (Get-Rich-Quick) look
"different this time," and catch unsuspecting small business
owners with their spin.

The noise around blogging and its traffic-generating
potential is exceptionally loud these days.  There is some
substance for this buzz but, as always, you have to keep
blogging in perspective.

Full blogging is great for mavens who have the content,
time, and inclination to frequently share news or original
thinking about their topics.

For most small businesses, however, site-blogging within a
theme-based site is the best 80-20 solution. And only Site

Don't be misled by the "latest and greatest" into thinking

So when you hear a Blogger tooting his or her horn, use
Alexa as your "BS"-traffic-check.  Here's why...

Alexa normally returns traffic rankings for the entire site. 
But it makes exceptions for the major blogging services. You
can check individual traffic rankings in the major services
(ex., blogspot.com and typepad.com) by entering the
subdomain for that blog.

Do some testing on your own...

If the ranking is in the high millions or the dreaded "No
Data" (which means that not a single Alexa toolbar user has
visited that site in 90 days), you know the individual may
be blogging a lot, but s/he is not getting much traffic.

On the other hand, Seth Godin, who is a multiple
best-selling author, has an Alexa ranking of 5,459 for his
blog, sethgodin.typepad.com...

And John Dvorak, another famous business writer in the
United States, is at 18,131...

Bottom line?  Traffic rankings for average bloggers (i.e.,
after you get past the famous ones) are nil or dismal.

Should you happen to get a result in the top few hundred,
it's likely the Alexa rank for the blog service, not the
blog itself.  Alexa only does this for the very biggest
services.

Hype, noise and buzz.  Take them too seriously and it's easy
to get overwhelmed or off-track.

Take-home lesson?

Focus.  Concentrate on adding valuable content to your site. 
Keep growing your site, and your business, at a steady
pace...
