It's Here... With a Vengeance!

Last issue, we announced that we were about to launch Free
Book Build It! for our affiliates...

http://www.sitesell.com/site-sell-backissues-024.html

Well, it's here!

Free Book Build It! has gone totally bonkers!

Whereas a mere handful of affiliates had ever customized
their own free trial download manually (which took hours),
over 2,000 affiliates have already clicked the "Build It!"
button to build their own RRURL-customized Affiliate Masters
Course, in the "easy-reading" form of a beautiful PDF
e-book. And it takes a grand total of 15 seconds to do it!

Eva Almeida, 5P Affiliate from British Columbia, Canada, and
"free e-book maven," absolutely loves it. She jumped on
this one fast (ACTION is a key skill of every successful
affiliate, I've noticed -- JUST DO IT, right?).

--------------------------------------------
I took advantage of your idea months ago to
offer free ebooks with my affiliate link
embedded within each copy. I must admit that
it took some time to customize them, but it
was definitely worth it. My affiliate sales
increased considerably once I started to
feature and *recommend* the excerpts of your
ebooks on my site and in my ezine.

My free-ebooks.net site is becoming more and
more popular and SiteSell.com's free ebooks
and excerpts are featured right on the main
page. I am thrilled with your new "ebook-it"
idea! Never has a pdf ebook been so easy to
customize with affiliate links. It took all
of two seconds to press a button to create
the customized version! You can't get
simpler than that and I know from experience
that high quality free ebooks are effective
in boosting sales.

You are right that "The Affiliate Masters
Course" overdelivers and it sets a new
standard for free ebooks... thanks for
providing us with such a great affiliate tool!

----------------------------------------------

How can you get The Affiliate Masters Course? Easy, just
register for the 5 Pillar Program...

http://makemy.sitesell.com/affiliates/

Then download your own, customized copy. Not only will you
have what Audri Lanford, Allan Gardyne, and other Net gurus
call "the best affiliate information at any price... and
it's free" but in addition...

YOU can offer YOUR visitors/readers The Affiliate Masters
Course in e-book format directly from your own site or
through your e-zine!

It's ready and waiting to make sales, and substantial
commissions, for you!

By the way, if you missed the last issue of SITE-SELL!,
this article received some of the strongest feedback we've
had in a long time...

A Fly On The Wall In "A Very Special Thread"

How intrigued would you be to find this e-mail staring up at
you from your inbox?...

------------------------------------------

Hi Ken,

I thought you might like to see what people
are saying about you behind your back.

David

-------------------------------------------

These days, it's very seldom that I receive e-mail that
generates a genuine "eye-widening" response. I have to
say...

It's really nice for a change!

I must admit, though, I was a little hesitant to grab the
bait hook, line, and sinker -- when you have a high profile,
some folks get pleasure from taking pot shots. So I wasn't
sure what to expect.

Well, here's the thread that 5 Pillar Affiliate David
Phillips , from the sunshine state of
Florida, included in the rest of that note...

-----SIDEBAR-----
I have reversed the order of appearance,
to make the sequence easier to follow.
-----SIDEBAR-----

-----BEGIN THREAD--------------------------------------->
-----BEGIN THREAD--------------------------------------->

Hi Dave,

How is your SBI project coming? I'll be there soon, as I
mentioned in my other email this morning. I'm actually
amazed at how well Evoy is conveying everything.

Ulf

--

Hi Ulf,

You can see how it's coming along if you go to
www.small-business-marketing-strategies.com .

At this point I'm still working very much from the point of
view of getting the site and pages well ranked. Then I have
to work on getting the click-through to PostcardMania's main
site without upsetting the ranking.

I've done 10 pages and want to get it up to 50-100. These
pages have been submitted but not yet ranked by the free
SEs. I'm now getting into the world of pay-per-click, main
directories and paid SEs. I'm moving a bit slowly but
steadily. The client is very pleased with how it's going so
far. Obviously this will have to show up in results.

David

--

Hi Dave,

Yes, I'm very curious to see where in the SEs you'll end up
(Evoy is promising a lot in that regard with 10-20 ranking).
Are you going to work the Affiliate angle at all? Some of
the free SEs can take weeks to rank you, by the way, but I'm
sure you know that.

I've also decided to get into the pay-per-click scenario,
and I'll keep you posted once I get there.

Is small-business-marketing-strategies.com the site that
you're working on? It looks very good.

See ya,

Ulf

--

Hi Ulf,

Yes, small-business-marketing-strategies is the web site. I
think post cards are great and PostcardMania are the best in
the business.

I don't know about the affiliate angle. Evoy is going to add
affiliate program running as part of SBI! and I think when
he does we should try it out. I get the idea that
experimenting is definitely the way to go with websites. See
what works, drop what doesn't, strengthen what does.
Condition formula application really.

Hey, you're up pretty early. I just realized. I thought it
was only me that started work at 6 am.

Do well,
David

--

Hi David,

Well, you're not kidding. 5 minute turnaround on email. No
moss on that stone.

Actually, I've meant to thank you for steering me in Ken
Evoy's direction as well, he really is a breath of fresh air
in the Internet Marketing jungle. He really is ethical,
which makes all the difference. I've studied a lot about SEs
and most of the stuff I've read has been from an adversarial
viewpoint, rather than an ethical one. I'm really glad you
recommended him.

With MYSS and MYWS, along with SBI I think I have the full
arsenal to make HealthCatalog.com a huge success.

I don't know if I am going to take the affiliate route
either. We're not selling a unique enough thing, and we're
not "web-cheap" either, i.e., we're reasonably priced but
not inexpensive, so I don't think there's a fit. We'll see,
however. I'm not ruling anything out at this point.

Yup, I'm up every day at 5am, nowadays studying MYSS and
getting the HealthCatalog.com boom underway.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Ulf

--

Hi Ulf,

You're very welcome on Evoy. I'm more than happy to
recommend him to anyone. I've forgotten how I found him but
I'm glad I did.

David

--

-----KEN'S SIDEBAR-----
David may have forgotten, but our database
has not. He heard about us through master
traffic-builder, Brad Konia, a 5 Pillar
Affiliate also from Florida! More sunshine!

http://1stplaceranking.com/
-----KEN'S SIDEBAR-----

--

Hi David,

I wonder if Evoy ever sleeps. You did great to find him, and
again, thanks for passing him on. He's worth his weight in
traffic.

-----KEN'S SIDEBAR-----
And I've gained a lot of weight since
starting this e-commerce life! :-(
-----KEN'S SIDEBAR-----

BTW, did you take the (free) Affiliate Master Course? I sent
a blank email to tams@sitesell.net and voila, the first of
five installments is in my inbox. There's bound to be
overlap here, but number of times through the material and
all that... can only help.

Back to the Evoy stuff.

Ulf

--

Hi Ulf,

Yes, I did order the Affiliates Course and I am a registered
member and I even downloaded the full PDF, but I never got
through it as I got into Site Build It and he's kept me busy
ever since. So far he's helped me make over $4,000 and
that's just on the first web site. The next one will be much
quicker. Wait till you see what he's done with the
Pay-Per-Click bidding process when you get to that point of
the Site Build It guide.

Have fun.
David

-----END THREAD----------------------------------------->
-----END THREAD----------------------------------------->

And THAT'S when David e-mailed me. I must say that despite
my intial reservations, I thoroughly enjoyed being a fly on
THAT wall. :-)

It's "feedback" that keeps us working insane hours, getting
e-commerce/affiliate/e-zine/graphics ready for what will be
an amazing SBI!-Ecommerce launch. And when I thanked David
for permitting me to reprint the thread, he replied...

---------------------------------------------------------
Hi Ken,

I have been following the progress of the e-commerce etc.
modules and am very much looking forward to being able to
get my hands on all of that. I think the philosophy is
spot-on and the overdelivery, as you say, insane.

The timing will be perfect for me. I have several clients
who want sites and I will simply have each one buy a SBI
license, I will get them up and running with it and then
take the time to turn it over to someone in house who can
continue to build and improve the site and keep the license
going. I have no secrets from my clients about how I'm doing
it and I show them SBI in action and encourage them to find
someone to take it over in-house while I move on...

BTW, if you would like me to write up a really detailed
testimonial for you to use as you wish, I would be happy to
do so. Despite your being accused of "hype" I honestly don't
feel you do SBI justice when you describe it and, in
general, I am always surprised and delighted to find some
new feature (like the first time I went to the PPC section
of Manager, for example). Anyway, I would be happy to take
the time to do this if you think it would be useful and it
would be a way of "giving back" a little for all the highly
underpriced value I have received from your products.

Let me know.

All the best and I hope you're seeing a golf course from
time to time!

David
---------------------------------------------------------

Now, I'm sure that the golf course remark was
UNintentionally cruel... seeing as how there is still snow
on the ground, here in Montreal. Living in Florida, David
is still out on the links in January.

Aside from that, though, it's feedback like this that makes
life wonderful. David, thank YOU for taking the time to
praise and share those wonderful comments, and for giving me
chance to be a happy fly on the wall.

Better still, thank YOU for providing me with a
heart-warming affirmation of the veracity of the entire Site
Build It! philosophy and concept. Once in a while, it's
feels good to receive e-mail that confirms to us what we
already know -- the core concepts of Site Build It! are
sound!

For instance, see where David says...

------------------------------------------
I have several clients who want sites and I
will simply have each one buy a SBI license,
I will get them up and running with it and
then take the time to turn it over to someone
in house who can continue to build and
improve the site and keep the license going.
------------------------------------------

Obviously, David's a Net-smart, Web-savvy marketer. And I'm
sure FTP, HTML, SEO (add a mileu of extraneous Net-marketing
acronyms here) pose no barrier to him. Yet he chooses to
promote his clients with Site Build It! and NOT with a
"traditional" Web hosting solution and a hard drive full of
outboard software.

Why?

Site Build It! comes complete with an impressive, built-in
suite of state-of-the-Net tools that allows serious marketers
like David to leverage the most important commodity of them
all...

Time.

And when time is most definitely money, Site Build It! is
the obvious solution. Not only is it cheaper than the
alternatives, it's the ONLY stand-alone solution in
existence. In other words, David chooses Site Build It!
because it's the solution that MAKES him the most money
while SAVING him the most money!

Aye, but here's what really sets Site Build It! apart...

Savvy Web marketers choose Site Build It!, that's true, but
it's the unprecedented ability to eliminate the
technological hurdles that are so daunting to "newbies" that
makes Site Build It! so unique. I really believe
that ANYONE can earn income online regardless of their
level of expertise IF they have a complete SYSTEM. A
color-by-number guide to e-commerce, if you will!

I'm proud to say that Site Build It! *IS* that system!

http://makemy.sitesell.com/buildit/

For the quick tour...
http://makemy.sitesell.com/quicktour/

-----SIDEBAR-----
Regarding David's interesting comment on
"hype"...

If you are selling a product or service on
the Net (as opposed to PREselling through
good content as an affiliate)...

Never, ever be afraid to write good,
benefit-laden copy. If your words are
mistaken by the "overly-left-brained" as
"hype," that's life. People who dislike that
approach (mis)use the term to somehow imply
hucksterism.

There was a great thread in I-sales about
"hype" awhile back. I guess it all depends
on what you mean by "hype." Invariably,
though, if you write solid benefit-focused
copy, you will be accused of "hype." So get
used to it, if you want to succeed.

But do NOT cross the line into huckster
territory. And DO stay within the bounds of
acceptability of MOST of your target market.

We use benefit-oriented copy that is
designed to communicate with our target
market. Every word is true. Still, if our
target market was an extremely introspective,
highly left-brained, over-analytic, "just the
features please" group of rocket scientists,
the copy would be dramatically different,
while still following all the basic
principles of good copy. THE #1 Rule of good
copy is, of course, to know your customer.

Since everyone is different, though, there
are those who ARE in fact in our target
market, who might find our copy too "hypey."
Until we can put electrodes into everyone's
brains to know their individual personality
type, we have to continue to market to the
95% of the bell curve that is plus-or-minus 2
standard deviations of the mean... and accept
that we'll miss out on the 2.5% beyond both
ends of that curve, as well as a few inside
of that, too.

In other words... you can't write to please
'em all! ;-)

One other point... we are far less hard-sell
than all of our competitors in our space,
combining content, features and benefits, and
not over-promising... rather we OVERdeliver.
The e-mail that we receive speaks to that
over and over (even the ones that "talk about
us behind our backs!").

All in all, I believe we have found the best
approach for us to reach and sell to our
potential target market. It's only
hucksterism if you don't deliver the goods.
And folks know we OVERdeliver.

Bottom line... if you have something to sell,
don't be afraid to... and don't be afraid of
being accused of selling.

Or you won't.

Are You Missing Out On FREE Traffic?

There's no arguing that more and more Search Engines (SEs)
are requiring that you pay to have your site listed within
their respective indices. It's hardly the ideal situation
for a small business owner operating on a shoestring budget,
and I can't say that I like the current situation any more
than you do. However...

Even the SEs that rely heavily upon paid submissions to
populate their databases must keep crawling the Web and
adding sites for free if their search results are to remain
relevant. Remember, a Search Engine lives and dies on the
relevancy of its search results (ever hear of Google?).

In other words, it's still possible to make it into the most
important databases for free.

That's ample reason to make sure your Web site obeys the
80-20 rule for optimization for your most important
keywords. Even as I surf now, I still see many of the same
basic mistakes that were prevalent back when I wrote Make
Your Site SELL!...

http://makemy.sitesell.com/myss/

-----SIDEBAR-----
MYSS! is now totally updated, of course. The
new version, MYSS! 2002, takes off where the
original left off, and still remains the
"single-best" resource for selling ANYTHING
on the Net!

http://makemy.sitesell.com/myss/
-----SIDEBAR-----

Implementing a few Search Engine Optimization basics will
take moments, and could make a world of difference to the
amount of traffic your site sees. Take a few minutes to
check over your own site as we proceed through this
discussion. If you aren't getting the basics right, you
simply don't have a chance on today's Internet...

o <TITLE>

This is probably the most important tag on your entire page.
If your keywords aren't in the <TITLE> you could be losing
out BIG time. For instance, it's amazing how often I'll see
the <TITLE> displayed as...

domain-of-site.com

Yes, the TITLE is the domain name!

Unfortunately, no one performs keyword searches for the name
of your domain. If a customer knows what it is, she'll
simply type it into her browser.

Here's a good example. Let's take a fictitious company,
"Acme Internet Marketing.com" and transform the <TITLE>
from...

Acme-Internet-Marketing.com

To...

Search Engine Optimization and Pay-Per-Click Campaigns by
Acme-Internet-Marketing.com

Yes, Acme-Internet-Marketing.com will likely not appear in
the browser window, but really -- who cares?

If a visitor makes it to your site, she'll see your logo on
the Web page. And the fact that you've got your keywords in
your title means your customer is more likely to find you!

Moral of this story?

Unless you've got a recognizable brand name, get your
keywords into the <TITLE> tag first.

---

o <META Keywords>

The days of stuffing this tag full of your keywords in order
to attain high rankings is long over. Instead, place your
most important keywords into this tag once and no more than
twice, and then add synonyms of these words. Don't worry
about getting every last variation of your keywords into
this tag. These days, most engines give the <META> tags
little more than a cursory glance...

---

o <META Description>

Some engines still display the <META Description> under your
listing on the results page. So you need to write to "get
the click". Get your most important keyword as close to the
beginning of your description as possible. If you can do so
while maintaining the flow, sprinkle a couple of other
keywords in as well.

---

o <H1> Heading Tag

Another very important tag. Makes sense, right? After all,
the main title of your body content is likely to reflect the
topic of the following text, correct? So don't waste your
<H1> tag like this...

Welcome To Acme-Internet-Marketing.com!

Instead, get your keywords in there...

Search Engine Optimization and Pay-Per-Click Campaigns by
Acme-Internet-Marketing.com

Yup, same as your title. Not very creative, I agree, but...

Perfect!

---

o Body Copy

These days, the SEs are very interested in your body copy.
They want to see your keywords, but they don't want to see
them too often. A general rule of thumb is to start your
discussion with your keywords, and end your discussion with
your keywords. Throughout the bulk of your document you'll
want to keep your keywords to a minimum. Believe it or not,
the keyword density (the measured weight of your keywords
balanced against total number keywords) of high-scoring
pages is actually very low -- less than 2% in many cases.

Why?

The SEs are trying to mimic the "feel" of a real page. In
other words, they are trying to return the documents that
are the most suited to a client's query, and not the ones
that have been tampered with to score artificially high in
the rankings.

So go easy on the keywords in the body copy. Use synonyms,
because the engines definitely make the association.

---

o HYPERLINK URL

If you have links on your page, try to get relevant keywords
into those links.

So instead of saying something generic like...

For more on affiliate recruitment, "Click here!"

Get the keyword "affiliate recruitment" into the "clickable"
part of the link.

If people are linking into you, ask them to include your
keywords in the incoming links. Do this especially if you
are doing a link exchange.

---

o Other Tags

Used to be Web masters would swear that stuffing <ALT> tags
full of keywords, or using a ton of keyword-rich <COMMENT>
tags would make a world of difference to their rankings.
The engines are too smart for that now.

None of this likely makes a difference anymore.

If you really insist...

Use a keyword in an "ALT" tag if it makes sense to do so.
Try a <COMMENT> tag containing one of your most important
keywords.

But that's about it.

And definitely, for sure, absolutely...

No tricks. Play nice. The SEs are smart and they hold all
the cards in this game. And they'll simply pick up and go
home if they feel YOU aren't playing fair. Chances are you
need them much more than they need you, so play by the
rules, or you'll suffer the consequences!

---

Now we could go into this in much more detail, and we *DO*
in MYSS! 2002...

http://makemy.sitesell.com/myss/

... but that's not the point of this discussion. Page
tweaking is tedious work, and the SEs are a fickle bunch.
When time is of the essence, it bodes most small business
netrepreneurs well to build great content, structuring the
pages around the basic fundamentals of Search Engine
Optimization (SEO), and then move on to other things...

Like building more and more pages, and targeting other
keywords!

Kind of sounds like the Site Build It! approach, actually,
except it provides you with all the tools to really get it
right, FAST (complete keyword analysis, submitting, spider-
tracking, re-submitting when necessary, index-tracking, and
rank-checking -- all automatic). All you have to focus on
is building a bigger and bigger net of great content...

... a net that keeps catching TARGETED traffic. :-)
