Windows Needs Some
Acrobat Training

PROBLEM
Is the wrong program opening your book? Perhaps Word or Wordpad or Notepad. Or perhaps an older version of Acrobat (ex. 2.1) keeps trying to open it? Or are you getting a "not a valid Win32 application" when you try to open one of the book's volumes?

Here's the solution...

First, do not uninstall your book. It is most likely OK. Please do the following...

1) Check START > PROGRAMS > ADOBE ACROBAT
Do you have Version 3 or higher? If not, you need Adobe Acrobat 3 or higher -- they just came out with 4.0 and it's terrific. The download URL for Adobe is...
http://www.adobe.com/Acrobat/readstep.html

After you download it, Adobe Acrobat Reader should install just fine. Double left click on the Adobe Acrobat installer icon ("ar40eng"). Just keep accepting all the windows until it installs the Acrobat Reader program.

If you already have Adobe 3.0 or higher, we're getting closer to solving the problem...

2) The PDF file extension has not been "registered" to Adobe Acrobat Reader 3 or higher yet -- it is either registered to an older version of Acrobat (if you have one), or something else altogether if you did not have Acrobat when you tried to open MYSS!.

So Windows is unable to make the connection that it should open the PDF files with the Adobe Acrobat Reader program. That means we'll have to "train" it.

First, if you have Acrobat 2.1, it's best to uninstall it. Either...
a) use the UNINSTALL or REMOVE function under START > PROGRAMS > ADOBE ACROBAT. (This function may not be available on your computer.)
OR
b) Explore to it and delete it manually if you do not see an UNINSTALL function under START.

Now, we'll teach Windows to make the connection between PDF files and Acrobat Reader 3 or higher. Here's how...

Special note: The following instructions were originally written specifically for Make Your Site SELL!. If you own one of our other electronic books or manuals, the instructions remain the same -- simply locate the corresponding PDF file for your e-publication (ex., C:\myksbook for MYKS!).

i) Explore to C:\myssbook. Single-left-click on any PDF file that is inside the myssbook directory.

SPECIAL NOTE for free trial users: If you are trying to open the Free Trial Download, explore to C:\windows\desktop\TryMYSS if you unzipped to the default location. Otherwise, explore to wherever you unzipped it.) Single-left-click on any PDF file that is inside that directory.

ii) Now, hold down the Shift key (on your keyboard) -- while holding the Shift key, right-click on that same file. This will pop open a window -- in that window...

iii) Select "Open With..." -- another window will pop up, showing you a list of programs to choose from. Choose "AcroRd32.exe" and check the box marked "Always use this program to open this type of file." Then click "OK."

If you do not see "AcroRd32.exe" as an option, click on the "Other" button and browse through C:\Acrobat(3 or 4)\Reader until you see "AcroRd32.exe" -- double-left click on it, then complete the instructions in iii) above.

iv) Great! You have successfully trained Windows to open PDF files correctly. Now shut down and restart.

v) Next (for book owners only) open via the START menu...

START > PROGRAMS > MAKE YOUR SITE SELL >

SPECIAL NOTE for free trial users: Just double-click on any of the PDF files -- Acrobat should now open them properly.

All should go well.
