What’s Stopping Your Entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneur, from the French entreprendre, is defined as “one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise.”
That’s the Webster definition.
Now, Harvard Business School professor Howard Stevenson put it another way. He said that entrepreneurship is, “the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled.” 1
So let’s get this straight. An entrepreneur is someone who is going after an opportunity, a vision, and assumes the risks involved, typically financial.
That sounds scary!
Yet according to the U.S. Department of Labor, about 600,000 people in the U.S. decide to start a new business every year. 2
What is it that makes all these people decide to go ahead and pursue that opportunity, despite the risk?
Or, to put it more to the point, what’s stopping you?
What’s stopping you from going after that dream you’ve always had? Whether it’s to own your own business, or to solve a specific problem, or just to lead a certain kind of lifestyle that you’ve associated with owning your business… what’s holding you back?
