Turning Comics Into Cash - Lessons From a Solopreneur Superhero

My project is next to my heart all the time, and deep down inside I’m Batman.
My Batcave is SBI!, and my Batmobile is my laptop. And that’s the way to be successful!Ashley from sellmycomicbooks.com

Ashley Cotter-Cairns wasn’t always that highly focused. In fact, back in 2005 when he first started his online career with Solo Build It!, he was all over the place. At one point, he had 5 websites to juggle, plus newborn twins.

None of his sites took off as a real, income generating business. Then a well meaning friend told him, “Hey, apps are all the rage now. Why don’t you try that?” So he bought access to an app building tool for $1,000 per year. The first app he built was about comic book investing. Ashley likes to joke that he “literally made several dollars a month doing this full time.”

But, while the detour into app building didn’t pay off financially, it unearthed a long-lost childhood passion: comic books. Hmm, could there be a business in trading comic book collections?

So, he jumped into buying and selling comic books. On eBay. On Craigslist. He chased a small pool of sellers, while competing with several established traders. The result? Ashley lost about $30,000 in that first year of trading.

He scratched his head. What was he doing wrong? If only he had a way to have comic book sellers chasing him! Then the penny dropped. The solution had been under his nose, all along.

How this solution looks, and how it enabled Ashley to go from $30K in losses to a turnover of $1.4 Million in sales in two short years — that’s what you’ll find out in the video interview below.

You don’t need superhero powers to become successful online. We hope that’s the message you’ll take away from the video.

Any new project seems daunting. After all, it’s something you haven’t done before. Ashley felt the same. He said…

A new project becomes daunting, because I don’t know what to do first… When I started reading the Action Guide, I realized, hey there’s a process to follow… I think I can do this.

Exactly. When you have a process, when you know what to do at every step of your online business journey, that new project suddenly seems much more doable. The SBI! Action Guide does precisely that. It takes you by the hand and guides you from one doable step to the next.

Not for nothing do so many thriving SBI! solopreneurs quote the Action Guide as one of the top 3 factors for their online success. Closely followed by being part of  an amazing community of solopreneurs and having access to constantly updated relevant business building information, all in one place.

But, you know what’s even more important than all of the above? To just DO it!

In that spirit, we’ll leave you with one last quote from Ashley, our solopreneur superhero:

And, most of all, when you get up in the morning and you just wanna be successful, you know, the first thing you gotta do when your feet hit the floor and you’ve got coffee in your system is you sit down and you get on with it.

What are your superhero dreams? What would you love to achieve (or have already achieved) with an online business? Let us know in a comment!
